During lunch, we will have the chance to welcome people who are new to being a CPA in 2024. We will also appreciate the contributions of some of our amazing volunteer members.

Balancing Risk and Reward: The Smart CPA's Guide to AI Adoption--Jennifer Elder, CPA, CSP, CGMA, CSCA(1-2.15)

AI is here--disrupting the way CPAs work, whether you're ready or not. Will you take control and leverage its power, or risk being left behind? This high-impact session will give you the roadmap to adopt AI strategically, mitigate risks, and position yourself as a leader in the future of accounting.

Jennifer Elder is a Solutions Consultant with the AICPA. She works with forward-thinking organizations to fast track their leadership development programs. She helps smart financial professionals transform from technically talented to strategically savvy. As a keynote speaker and trainer, Jennifer has presented to over 15,000 people in all 50 states and 12 countries. Jennifer started her career in public accounting at a regional firm. She chaired the account department at New Hampshire College and spent 15 years as a CFO in a variety of industries including homebuilding, technology and insurance. In 2022, Jennifer received the Women Who Count award in education by the Accounting and Financial Women's Alliance (AFWA). In 2018, she earned the designation of Certified Speaking Professional (CSP), making her one of only 15 people worldwide who hold both the CPA and CSP designations. CPA Practice named Jennifer one of the Top 25 Women in Accounting in 2018. Jennifer received her BA from the University of Massachusetts and an MS in Organizational Management from Antioch University New England. She has been published by the Journal of Accountancy, FM Magazine, the National Association of Home Builders, Triple Pundit, and the Journal of Corporate Accounting and Finance. And, Jennifer is a member of VT CPA!

The current and future Vermont Labor Force - Mathew Barewicz (2.30-3.30)

The presentation will focus on Vermont trends in employment and the current state of the labor force.

Mathew Barewicz is the Director of the Economic & Labor Market Information Division for the Vermont Department of Labor. He has 20 years of professional experience as an economist across both the public and private sector. Additionally, he has provided economic instruction at the collegiate level. Prior to his work in economics, he was employed in the brokerage industry as an equity trader. Mathew graduated from the University of Vermont with a double major in economics and French. He earned his master's degree in economics from San Diego State University. In his free time, Mathew enjoys spending time with family.

2025 Legislative Wrap-Up - Jamie Feehan (3.30-4)

Jamie Feehan brings more than 15 years of experience working before the Vermont General Assembly to his work on behalf of clients. In that time, he has built a reputation for non-partisan, honest work, bolstered by a thorough understanding of the legislative process. Jamie is known for his ability to develop legislative and administrative action plans, then implement all aspects of those plans, including grass roots and grass tops mobilization.
